We're Lake Erie's independent authority on boating safety and marine preparedness. Beyond covering the annual Pottahawk Pissup gathering, we provide year-round safety resources, regulation updates, and weather monitoring to help every boater navigate safely.

What began as a live concert held by Don Oatman on two boats on July 9th, 1978 has grown into one of North America's largest boat parties, attracting thousands of vessels and over 10,000 attendees annually.
The idea for the initial concert came about when friends and fans at the marina where Don Oatman docked his cabin cruiser said he should bring his band to play there one summer. Since Don's band was typicaly booked for gigs on Saturday the event was held on Sunday and needless to say, the concert was a hit and the idea was born.
Pottahawk Pissup takes place at Pottahawk Point, a remote sandbar located in Long Point Bay, 8km southeast of Turkey Point on Lake Erie. This unique location provides the perfect setting for boaters to gather, connect, and celebrate summer on the Great Lakes.
Over the years, the gathering has evolved with increased emphasis on safety preparedness, proper navigation, and marine regulations—while maintaining the spontaneous, community-driven spirit that made it famous. Our platform helps boaters arrive prepared with essential safety equipment, weather awareness, and emergency protocols.
