Survival Guide

Pottahawk Pissup is the biggest boat party in North America. Every year, nearly 10,000 people and 2,000 boats boat out to Pottahawk Point the second Sunday of July. To those unfamiliar with Pottahawk, the main walking route emulates Bourbon Street’s mari-gras like atmosphere. It’s fun for all ages.

Our Advice

  • Stay hydrated. Bring lots of water and keep it cool. Being dehydrated will ruin an otherwise awesome time, and attributes to sunstroke.

  • Apply sunblock regularly. How many times do we have to tell you! They say SPF’s have a diminishing effect as the number increases, so it’s important to reapply regularly. Creative hat are especially useful since you won’t have to lotion your face as much.

  • Bring food. Eat healthy and you’ll feel great. Keep in mind a little salt is good for electrolytes and carbs/calories are good to increase your energy.

  • Leave early. The pros start launching their boast at 5am. It then takes approx 20-60 minutes (depending on your boat) to reach your destination, Pottahawk Point.

  • Bring lots of liquids. Various elements like the sun, high activity, and extreme excitement may cause you to consume more then usual. Take note: The police do arrest people for being too intoxicated.

  • Be social. Say hi and smile to people you pass and bump shoulders with. It takes only a second to make someones day, and you may just find Miss or Mr Right:)
